Our facilities

Swings & Smiles offers play sessions for children with special needs and their whole family at our centre in Thatcham. We have specialist play resources to enable children with a wide range of disabilities to play with siblings and other family members in a secure and safe environment.

We provide many opportunities for play, cooking, art, sport and much more. We have a personal care room as well as fixed and portable hoists. Our garden is totally secure and the building is on one level with lots of space outside to eat if you'd like to bring a picnic.

  • Fully accessible swings, including wheelchair swing

  • Track with Tomcat trikes
  • Wheelchair accessible roundabout
  • Gaming cabin

All these facilities contribute to a range of experiences which can be stimulating or restful as required. They create an environment in which those with special needs and their families can be themselves and grow together.

Sessions run throughout the term times and school holidays to meet the needs of different children and young people. If you'd like to come along to one of our sessions then please book in advance.

    We understand just how different life is when you have a brother or sister who has a disability or special needs. We run three sessions a month for siblings which are free to attend, as well as offering a 5 week course in schools.

    Swings & Smiles welcome ITV Meridian News Presenter Sangeeta Bhabra as a patron. Sangeeta is an adult sibling carer and has written an article for carers week, illustrating some of the challenges she faces but also the many positives she experiences from having a disabled brother.

    Swings & Smiles is able to provide outreach in the community free of charge. We're able to visit schools, groups and individuals with lots of lovely sensory equipment and activities.

    Swings & Smiles is charity for children with special needs and their families, and was set up in 2007 by Sian Cook whose daughter Amy was her inspiration. We provide a play to play and support for the whole family.
