Supporting siblings of children with special needs – everybody has a responsibility

A conference for professionals to identify ways in which we can help these young people fulfill their potential

Sibling support at Swings & Smiles has grown hugely over the last few years and we now offer courses in schools as well as three sessions a month at the centre where the focus is around having fun with other siblings. The more contact we have with our families the more we are seeing that there is so much more that can be done for these children, not only by us but by other organisations and professionals too and we are keen to make this happen.

Earlier this year we conducted some research into the lives of siblings of children with special needs and now we'd like to invite professionals to hear the results, and the ways we've identified that we can all work together to support these young people. At the event you can expect to hear stories about the impact of growing up with a brother or sister with special needs from a parent's point of view and from some siblings themselves. There will also be the opportunity to have some group discussions around the topic and to work with other professionals to ensure we're all doing everything we can to support these young people in fulfilling their potential.

The event is free to attend but donations to our work are appreciated. Please book your free ticket below. Lunch and refreshments will be provided so let us know if you have any dietary requirements.
